Special strikes from Lauren Hemp and Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw are amongst the nominees for October's Barclays Women's Super League Goal of the Month.

Hemp, who is also shortlisted for the league’s Player of the Month award, receives this nomination for her equaliser in last week’s comeback win over Aston Villa.

The pacy winger had proved a threat throughout the afternoon but it was her composure and skill that turned this half chance into a goal.

Initially controlling Leila Ouahabi‘s deep cross with her head, Hemp was moving away from goal when she hooked the ball back over her own head and beyond retreating goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo.

A much-needed moment of genius to get City back on level terms.

Shaw’s standout finish of the month came a week earlier to snatch the points at the very end of our Anfield clash with Liverpool.

Having got City back level with a pinpoint header from Hemp’s cross earlier in the second half, Shaw was again required to seal the victory.

A perfect through ball from Laia Aleixandri found its way to a turning Shaw who held off her marker excellently and hit it hard into the roof of the net with just seconds left on the clock.

They’re up against Liverpool’s Cornelia Kapocs and Marie Hobinger for their goals against Spurs, Crystal Palace’s Annabel Blanchard against Leicester City, Arsenal’s Caitlin Foord versus Chelsea, Manchester United’s Elisabeth Terland for her first against Spurs, Leicester’s Yuka Momiki against Everton and Chelsea’s Johanna Rytting Kaneryd against Spurs.

This also follows news earlier today that boss Gareth Taylor is up for Manager of the Month for October.

Voting closes at 12:00 on Monday 28 October – choose Hemp or Shaw for Goal of the Month here.
