Starting in England’s strong 6-1 win over China, the skilful midfielder netted the Lionesses’ second goal of the evening when collecting Lauren James’ pass and coolly slotting into the bottom corner.
That represented her first strike at the prestigious tournament and her 11th on the international stage.
And the 22-year-old explained how it’s a moment she will never forget throughout the rest of her career.
“It was really important to get off to a flying start [against China],” Hemp expressed.
“I was sort of playing in a new role yesterday and I thought ‘when someone gets the ball, turns and starts running just literally run yourself’.
“I managed to find a little pocket of space and LJ (Lauren James) played a fantastic ball through to me and my first touch doesn’t normally come off very well, but it did yesterday.
“I saw their goalkeeper come off her line and more to her right, so I slotted it left and it was an incredible moment. One I’ll cherish forever.
“Everyone’s feeling pretty confident. I think yesterday was a massive step in the right direction
“Our focus now turns to Nigeria, so it’s important we rest and recover and turn our focus onto Nigeria because they’re going to be a tough opponent.”
The European champions’ impressive victory over China proved to be a night to savour for City players, as Chloe Kelly also scored her first goal at a World Cup - and England’s fifth of the night.
Coming from the bench in the 71st minute, the 25-year-old netted six minutes later when expertly reading the flight of the ball, which looped over China goalkeeper Yu Zhu, to tap into an empty net.

In addition to Hemp expressing pride for her Clubmate, she also stated how Kelly’s performance is a reflection of England’s immense strength in depth.
She added: “Yeah really pleased [for Kelly], Chloe’s a good friend of mine as we obviously play for City together.
“I feel like as soon as she came on she made a difference. She was running at the defence and she was just great.
“She managed to get a goal as well and it’s great to see people contributing when coming off the bench and really bringing it.
“I feel like as long as we do that throughout the whole tournament then anything can happen.”
