Lauren Hemp admitted she was left ‘standing in shock’ after netting a wonder strike to set City on the way to an impressive 3-0 UWCL Round of 32 second leg win against Goteborg.

The young England striker continued her impressive comeback from injury in quite stunning fashion, dispatching an incredible 30-yard dipping shot from the left flank to open the scoring at the Academy Stadium.

With Georgia Stanway adding a second half brace, it meant Gareth Taylor’s side wrapped up a 5-1 aggregate win over the Swedish champions to book our ticket into the last 16.

Hemp insisted afterwards she was definitely going for goal – but admitted she was amazed to see the spectacular effort go in.

“I couldn’t believe it. (The goal was) Pretty crazy!” Hemp reflected.

“I don’t think I’ve shot from there before. Maybe once...but not at City.

“You can see in my celebration; I’m standing in shock. I cut inside and l saw the keeper was off her line. It was like slow motion, I was saying “Go on, go on!”

“I’m looking forward to seeing it back to see if it looked like a cross - it definitely wasn’t!”

Hemp revealed it was one of the most memorable goals of her career, and added that it was an effort that would have meant a lot to her parents too.

“Was it my best ever goal? Probably nearly! The FA Cup final one (in 2019) was pretty special to me. I love every goal. I don’t score too often,” the 20-year-old admitted.

“My parents are really proud of me. They probably tweeted as soon as it went in! It’s nice to have that support and great to have them behind me.”

Having missed three months of the season after going off injured in August’s Community Shield clash against Chelsea, Hemp also admitted she was revelling being back on the pitch.

And with a three-week break following Sunday’s FA WSL clash at Birmingham, Hemp revealed she was aiming to kick on again in the New Year.

“I’m loving being back on the pitch,” the PFA Young Player of the Year added.

“It has been a hard few months, getting back from injury. But the physios and staff have helped me feel confident to go out and do what I love to do

“It was nice to get minutes in my legs and hopefully I can build on that in the last game (before the Christmas break).

“Then I want to push on in New Year and contribute to as many goals and assists as I can.”
