The 19-year-old forward’s fresh terms follow her signing a first professional deal during the 2024/25 campaign.
She enjoyed a breakout season in the Blues’ first team last year where she made her senior debut and totalled 22 appearances, two goals and two assists in all competitions.
Murphy first joined City’s Academy in 2022 and worked her way through our youth ranks into our first team while utilising her blistering pace, directness and keen eye for goal.
After featuring in a series of behind-closed-doors friendlies and during our pre-season tour of Australia in the summer of 2024, she made her senior bow in a 5-0 Champions League qualifying win over Paris FC in the French capital.
Her first professional contract would follow in December 2024 before she netted her first goal for the Club in a 2-0 win over St Polten at the Joie Stadium in the Champions League.
Perhaps her standout moment for the Blues in her fledgling career so far came in a League Cup quarter-final win over our cross-city rivals Manchester United in January 2025.
With the scoreline level at 1-1 at Leigh Sports Village, she drove down the left, cut onto her right foot and curled into the bottom corner, a strike which proved to be the winner as we secured passage into the semi-finals.
After penning her contract extension at City, she’ll now be looking to continue her sparkling development under the tutelage of Andrée Jeglertz.
Speaking after signing her contract extension, Murphy said: “It’s an amazing feeling, this is what I’ve worked towards – getting this extension – and I’m so looking forward to this season.
“It’s a proud moment for me and my family, it’s just what I’ve always dreamed of. To stay at this amazing club, it’s what I’ve always wanted.
“It’s my childhood club so I’ve got a certain love for it, and I just love coming in every day training and I love all the staff and coaches. It’s an amazing environment to be in.”
Manchester City Women Director of Football, Therese Sjogran added: “I am really happy that Lily has decided to commit her future to our Club.
“It’s been a real pleasure seeing her progression in the first team, and I’m excited to see what more she can achieve at City in the coming years.”

FLYING FORWARD
Despite having a distinguished past in athletics, Murphy’s speed and directness shown in her first senior season at City immediately raised eyebrows from those outside the Club.
But much more than her blistering pace, the 19-year-old’s versatility, bravery and ability on the ball alleviated some of the strain on the team last year as we navigated a rigorous schedule with a threadbare squad.
By the end of the 2024/25 campaign, she had made 22 appearances – scoring twice and registering two assists.
It may have been more than she expected to play having first arrived at the Club in 2022 and patiently worked her way through the system which included a dual registration at Stoke City in 2024.
A first full involvement with the first team came in pre-season of 2024 where she played in behind-closed-doors friendlies and during our training camp in Australia and she made her senior bow in our 5-0 Champions League qualifying win over Paris FC.
After impressing during the first three months of the campaign, she was rewarded with a maiden professional contract, and she remained a consistent figure in matchday squads which provided precious experience in high-pressured environments.
One of those was a Manchester derby in the Subway League Cup quarter-finals and she came to the fore when scoring our second in a 2-1 win.
She then started both of our Champions League quarter-final legs against Chelsea, which perhaps represented the biggest responsibility bestowed on her so far.
And as City continue to build a hugely exciting squad for the immediate and long-term future, her development under Andrée Jeglertz will provide a fascinating story.
