Hayley Raso hopes her excellent recent form will earn her a place in City's starting XI soon.

The Australian winger was the match winner in Sunday’s 1-0 Barclays Women’s Super League victory over Liverpool.

That was her second successive match on the scoresheet after netting the opener in Wednesday night’s 6-0 demolition of Blackburn Rovers.

Having been a second half substitute for Chloe Kelly in Sunday’s match, Raso believes she is staking a claim for a regular role from the start.

Speaking to the media after the match, she said: “As a player I am competitive and I want to start games. I am contributing as much as possible and hopefully that start will come soon.

“It was important for me to play my part. If I am on the bench I need to contribute in some way.

“I was hoping to make an impact and I just want to do my job whether that is scoring, assisting or defending from the front.”

Manager Gareth Taylor told mancity.com afterwards that he had reserved special praise for Raso during the post-match team talk on the pitch.

Having battled to the win in front of a bumper Academy Stadium crowd, Raso was delighted to have defeated a side that beat last year’s champions Chelsea earlier this season.

“Liverpool were a tough opponent, we knew they would be,” she said.

“There is no easy game as the league is so competitive now. It’s nice when you’re drawing to come away with the win too.

“We started off slow with two defeats in the league and going out of the Champions League but I feel like we’re finding form and gaining momentum.”
