The Subway League Cup was renamed and restructured ahead of the 2026/27 season.
And in the new Swiss-style league format, City defender Thomas, on loan at WSL2 outfit Nottingham Forest, helped the Reds earn their first point this term.
The 20-year-old returned to the starting line-up and played every minute as they battled hard against a difficult Sheffield United side.
But neither side was able to find a breakthrough as the game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes.
In the competition’s format, if a league phase game ends in a draw, the two teams partake in a penalty shootout with the winner earning an extra point.
But Sheffield United claimed the second point with a 4-2 win from 18-yards out.
It means Forest sit 19th, two points off the all-important top eight with four games left to play.
In Scotland, shot stopper Eve Annets was in between the sticks again for Hibernian as they fell to a 4-2 defeat to league leaders Rangers.
As a result, Hibernian remain fifth and move 11 points behind the WSPL 1 leaders.
And in the WSL City’s other two loanees are continuing to tally minutes in the English top-flight.
Lily Murphy played the opening 45 minutes as she led Aston Villa’s attacking line in their 2-1 comeback win over Liverpool.
A second half goal from Chasity Grant and a Grace Fisk own goal completed the turnaround for the Villans who move to 10th in the table.
Finally, Naomi Layzell played every minute of Everton’s narrow 2-1 defeat to third-place London City Lionesses.
Goals from Delphine Cascarino and Freya Godfrey meant Hannah Cain’s strike was just a consolation.
It means Everton now sit sixth, six points below the top three.
