GARETH TAYLOR PREVIEW
“We need to check on Viv [Miedema] to see where she’s at,” the City boss revealed.
“We didn’t take her with us [to Austria]. We don’t think it’s an issue to keep her out long. We will check in at this afternoon’s session.
“We used Jill in midweek again having played 90 minutes at Liverpool. She comes back into the reckoning this weekend.
“We managed to manage some players - Bunny, it was important to continue with her rhythm.
“Kirsten it was good to give her a rest [on Wednesday] because her and Laia [Aleixandri] with Naomi Layzell not fit meant there was quite a lot of load on those players.
“There are no other issues and everyone is looking good.”
LAST TIME OUT
We edged a five-goal thriller last time out to beat St Polten 3-2 in Vienna and maintain our 100% start in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Alanna Kennedy’s sublime rocket opened the scoring in the sixth minute, but the hosts equalised close to half-time through Melanie Brunnthaler.
The hosts then took the lead at Viola Park through Kamila Dubcova’s fantastic effort before Aoba Fujino equalised moments later with her first for the Club.
With proceedings finely poised heading into the closing stages, Mary Fowler popped up with brave header in the 80th minute to secure the success and a further three points in Europe.
PREVIOUS MEETING
City last met Aston Villa in our final assignment of 2023/24, winning 2-1 at Villa Park.
With the Taylor’s team gunning for the title during the match, Fowler broke the deadlock on 25 minutes before Rachel Daly equalised with just over 20 remaining.
Lauren Hemp then restored our lead on what was Steph Houghton’s last outing for the Club before retirement.
Although the Blues collected three points, we just missed out on the championship on goal difference but equalled our best-ever WSL points tally in the process.
