Gareth Taylor’s side secured passage into the quarter-finals of the competition with the exciting success at the Joie Stadium which saw us cement our place at Group B’s summit.
During the match, our players wore the special PUMA Year of the Dragon release for the first time.
Following an evenly contested first half that ended goalless, the hosts were fast out the traps after the break and opened the scoring two minutes after the restart when Chloe Kelly slammed into the net.
Buoyed by breaking the deadlock, we doubled our advantage with 20 minutes to play when Lauren Hemp ghosted into the box and tapped home after Kerstin Casparij drove down the right and drilled the ball across the face of goal.
City were well worth our strong advantage, but the lead was halved in injury time when Nikita Parris bundled into the net to give Marc Skinner’s side a glimmer of hope.
But we held our nerve and produced a strong defensive display to rubber-stamp the win we needed to reach the Conti Cup knockout phase.
