Just as Pep Guardiola’s men did in October, City came away from Old Trafford with three goals and a deserved three points.
Despite United taking an early lead through Katie Zelem, City rallied and turned the game on its head with goals from Jill Roord, Lauren Hemp and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw moving us up to third in the table.

An away win in the derby certainly isn’t new territory for City.
Indeed, Gareth Taylor’s side have claimed victories on the road against Manchester United in the FA Cup on two separate occasions over the years.
However, Sunday’s showdown saw the away side emerge victorious from a WSL clash between City and United for the first time.
Indeed, our league record at the Leigh Sports Village prior to this weekend had stood at two draws and one defeat, while United had one draw and three defeats from fixtures at both the Etihad and Joie Stadium.
Double trouble
Quickfire goals from Roord and Hemp proved the catalyst for our memorable Manchester derby win at Old Trafford.
The Dutch international’s clinical strike back across goal drew us level, with the England winger then curling home an exquisite second moments later to turn the game on its head.
Incredibly, there were just 80 seconds between Roord and Hemp’s goals hitting the back of the net at Old Trafford.
Debut delight
It was a Manchester derby to remember for Roord, who drew City level with her fourth WSL goal of the season.
Incredibly, she’s now the fifth City player to find the net in her first appearance against Manchester United.
She now joins the esteemed company of Caroline Weir, Ellen White, Chloe Kelly and Bunny Shaw on that list since 2019 with City averaging a goalscoring debutant in just under 50% of our meetings with our cross-city rivals.

Victory in the derby saw City become the first side to beat Manchester United on their home patch in over a year, when Chelsea won 3-1 on 6 November 2022.
