Abby Dahlkemper and Janine Beckie have been selected to represent the United States and Canada respectively at this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.

Dahlkemper, who will be taking part at her first Olympics, joins former City trio Sam Mewis, Rose Lavelle and Carli Lloyd in Vlatko Andonovski’s 18-strong squad, 17 of which were part of their World Cup-winning side in 2019.

The USA have been drawn into Group G alongside Australia, New Zealand and Rio 2016 silver medalists, Sweden.

The World Champions’ opening game sees them lock horns with the Swedes on Wednesday 21 July with kick-off scheduled for 09:30 (UK).

It gives the US an opportunity for revenge, after their hopes of retaining Olympic gold from London 2012 were dashed in a quarter-final penalty shootout defeat five years ago.

Beckie’s Canada finished with a bronze medal at the previous Olympics and kick off their tournament against host nation Japan at 11:30 (UK) on Wednesday 21 July.

They then battle for qualification from Group E against Chile and Great Britain respectively.

Beckie, who found the net three times at Rio 2016, will come up against ten of her City teammates when she takes on Hege Riise’s Team GB side on Tuesday 27 July.
