There's much more to Mary Fowler than her exploits on the pitch, including her love of nature.

The forward has signed a contract extension at City until the summer of 2027 and, in celebration of that moment, club photographer Declan Lloyd joined her on a walk in the Peak District.

She’s firmly established herself as one of the finest attackers in the game, being named in the 2024/25 PFA WSL Team of the Year and already amassing over 60 Australia caps at just 22 years old.

Off the pitch she’s also continued to break new ground.

In 2024, she was one of nine athletes to have a Barbie doll made in her likeness, while she also became the first professional footballer to hit the runway at Paris Fashion Week.

Fowler’s achieved so much for someone so young, and she credits the ability to switch off from football as a crucial element of her progress so far.

Being in nature, namely the Peak District with fellow City team-mate Katie Startup and others, is essential to that.

“That’s all Katie [Startup]. She loves hiking and I love being in nature. It’s probably one of the things I miss most about Australia is having so much access to nature,” she explains.

“I’m lucky Katie is in the team, she lives out in the peaks so she always wants to go on hikes together which is really nice.

“There’s been a few spaces outside of football I wanted to dive into more and getting injured gave me the opportunity to do that.

“In a nice way as well is it’s made me appreciate the football a lot more. I’m someone who relies heavily on having that balance, being able to switch off from football. Having that time away now, I feel really grateful to play the sport and have been given a gift that has put me in this situation.”
