City host Arsenal this afternoon, kick-off 14:15 (UK) at the Joie Stadium, as we aim to take another giant step closer to the title.
If City beat the Gunners and Chelsea lose or draw with Bristol City in their 18:45 (UK) clash or City draw and Chelsea lose, Gareth Taylor’s team will win the title today.
Wright-Phillips, who will be a guest summariser on Matchday Live this afternoon, is excited for what’s in store.
“It couldn’t get closer really,” the former City and Chelsea winger said.
“For me, over the course of the season, I think they’ve thoroughly deserved to be where they are.
“I think even though Chelsea have played more games than them because of the Champions League, watching them play I think City Women have been consistently better as a group and deserve to be where they are.
“Hopefully they get the result and Chelsea lose to Bristol.”
Of course, winning the title would mean the ultimate send-off for Steph Houghton who’s retiring from football at the end of the season.
Houghton has been an inspiration in the sky blue shirt and has won the WSL, three FA Cups and four League Cups while at City during a glittering 10-year spell.
Wright-Phillips would love to see the popular 36-year-old get the chance to lift the trophy high and proud one last time.
“It would definitely be lovely to see the team pick up that trophy and fingers crossed she gets that chance,” added Wright-Phillips.
