The Netherlands international scooped the prize after collecting the most votes at the division’s annual awards evening on Sunday 11 May – coming out on top against a swathe of stunning strikes.
In the success over the Villans, City’s versatile forward collected the ball outside the area before creating space with a smart turn.
She then made no mistake with the opening she fashioned, curling a vicious effort into the top corner of the net from range.
It was a demonstration of the WSL’s all-time leading scorer’s sparkling ability and also put us on the path to victory in the Midlands after Miedema had also equalised following the hosts’ opener.
Further goals from Mary Fowler and Jess Park rubber-stamped a deserved City victory at Villa Park.
The Australia international was nominated for the WSL Player of the Season award at the annual event, meanwhile Park too was in the running for Goal of the Season.
But Miedema’s effort was the pick of the bunch and she beat Arsenal’s Alessia Russo and Frida Maanum, Chelsea’s Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, Leicester’s Janice Cayman, Manchester United’s Grace Clinton and West Ham’s Viviane Asseyi to the prize.
Matchday experience winners
The Club also took home the prize for the WSL’s best Matchday Experience.
The award recognised both the events on offer to fans in and around a matchday, as well as the distribution of key information surrounding tickets, the booking process as well as both pre and post-match experience.
Less than 24 hours before, City dedicated our final home match of the 2024/25 campaign to the fans, with the players unveiling a special ‘thank you’ banner containing all the names of our season ticket holders after the final whistle.
Elsewhere, a member of our Official Supporters’ Club presented Yui Hasegawa with the Etihad Player of the Season trophy, with captain Alex Greenwood also addressing the fans and thanking you for your continued support.
Our matchday programme was also packed with fan-dedicate content, including an extended captain’s notes from Greenwood and a special pull-out poster featuring memories from 2024/25.
