Niamh Charles said she was thrilled to score her first goal for the Club in front of the City fans at the Joie Stadium.

The England full-back grabbed the deciding goal as Andrée Jeglertz’s side pipped Brighton in an action packed clash.

A brace from Bunny Shaw set us on our way to secure three points inside the first 20 minutes.

Brighton, however, weathered the storm with Olivia Garcia and Caitlin Hayes hauling them back into the game before half-time.

The Blues had to dig deep to earn that win, and Charles explained how it felt to score in front of the City faithful.

“Yeah, really nice, really nice to do it at home,” she said.

“I’ve got quite a lot of my family here today, so it’s really special.

“I think we create a lot of chances and I think we have a lot of crosses into the box where it falls on the edge and it happened a few times that I could have been there a little bit earlier, but thankfully I was there for this one and it went in.”

The Blues remain unbeaten in all competitions so far in 2026/27, after securing six wins in six in the WSL and two draws in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

It was a perfect way to start what will be a busy period for City, but Charles explained there are still learnings to be had.

She added: “I think the chances they had came from us rather than the other way around, so I think it’s something that we can fix, which is a good thing.

“I think it’s amazing, six wins from six, and I think we’re in a good place, but I also think we’ve got lots to work on and lots to progress.

“So, it’s exciting that we’ve done six weeks from six but there’s also still lots of room for improvement so hopefully we can keep building on the momentum of winning but putting together more of a 90-minute performance as well.”
