Our Interim Head Coach confirmed that both were struggling with muscular injuries and admitted an estimated return date hadn’t yet been confirmed.
Shaw was substituted late on in Saturday’s League Cup final defeat to Chelsea, with the boss later revealing she had experienced a hamstring issue.
Fujino, meanwhile, had grabbed City’s equaliser at Pride Park on her return from a foot complaint which had previously ruled her out against West Ham and Aston Villa.
However, Cushing said he’d rely on the expertise of the Club’s medical team to determine when both can return to the fold.
MATCH PREVIEW | CITY V CHELSEA - UWCL
He said: “Bunny Shaw came out, and she will be unavailable. Aoba is unavailable too.
“They’re two significant players that are missing [but] these moments give opportunities for other players.
“Both of them are muscle injuries. It’s going to take a few days to diagnose how long. I think they’re significant, but will leave it with the medical team.
“When you have muscle injuries, it’s ultimately not one you will turn around quickly.”
Our clash at the Joie Stadium is the second of a four-game sequence which sees City and Chelsea lock horns in three separate competitions.
The first took place on Saturday in the League Cup final, with Chelsea coming out on top with a 2-1 victory.
But City pushed Sonia Bompastor’s side all the way, and Cushing has called for his players to attack Wednesday night’s game in the same vein.
“You look at the game, we competed really well,” he added.
“I asked for a certain type of football without the ball. I said to the group that’s enough confirmation that you can compete with the best team in the league.
“The performance is there and the game is even despite one team being clear in the league. Go and play with no fear.
“I always say to my team ‘attack the opportunity, don’t fear the outcome or the consequence. Just play.’
“It’s a Champions League quarter-final and our home leg. We have to play the game to win.”
