Nick Cushing says City must be more clinical in our final three matches of the season but is confident those fixtures will see Lauren Hemp make her return to action.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by a resolute Everton side at the Joie Stadium, with Kerstin Casparij’s opener cancelled out by a Karen Holmgaard header.

It leaves City seven points behind Manchester United in the battle for European qualification, with the two sides still to face each other at Old Trafford in the penultimate match of the season.

Cushing couldn’t fault the effort of his players on the day and in the lead up to the game against the Toffees, but felt the chances we created should’ve been enough for the win.

He said: “The players we pick have to execute better. The team is creating the moments, I think [there were] four big chances today, which is enough to win a football game.

“We have to execute at level that is higher than we are at the moment. We’re losing and drawing and not winning, for our football club, we have to find a solution to that.

“The calming thing for me and confidence I get is because I can see everyone working towards that.

“We’re in a tough spot at the minute but it’s one we have to ride out and continue to focus on getting back to where we should be.”

Our Interim Head Coach did provide a boost around the imminent return of Hemp to match action, revealing she is set to be involved in the matchday squad for our trip to Leicester next week.

The England international has been ruled out since November with a knee injury after starting the campaign in scintillating form.

Hemp had nine goal involvements in her ten appearances before injury, and the boss is confident she’ll make an impact before the end of the campaign.

He added: “Yeah, Lauren Hemp will be in the squad for the Leicester game as it stands.

“She’s trained with the team and probably just didn’t do enough team training to make the game today.

“But she’ll definitely be in the squad for Leicester and is really hungry to start helping the team.”
