Caroline Weir's sensational goal in our 2020/21 Manchester Derby win has been nominated for an award.

The Scotland international’s audacious chip in our memorable 3-0 triumph has been shortlisted in the Northwest Football Awards as the potential ‘Moment of the Season.’

Ahead of tonight’s Continental Cup Derby clash against Manchester United, the finalists have now been announced and are open for public vote.

Weir’s delightful strike saw the Scotland international receive the ball on the edge of the box with her back to goal, roll it goalward with a backheel, take a touch and then plant an exquisite lob over Mary Earps to add the shiniest gloss to the scoreline with City already 2-0 to the good against our cross-town rivals.

The Olympian told the City Magazine this month the effort is her all-time favourite City goal.

“Of course, it means more to score in a Derby and the fact I’d tried that in a game – it’s a bit cheeky! – and it paid off, was amazing,” she smiled.

Summer recruit Hayley Raso is also up for the award, having hit her first senior hat-trick when Everton brought Brighton and Hove Albion’s winning run to an end with a 5-0 triumph last season.

Scoring with her left foot, right foot and head, the Australian international netted a ‘perfect’ treble for the Toffees.

Voting will close at 22:00 on Monday 22 November is conducted via hashtag on Twitter. For Weir, use #LADBROKESMOMENTB and for Raso: #LADBROKESMOMENTF
