We reached this game by overcoming Leicester City on penalties on Wednesday after a goalless draw.

Japanese goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita was the star on her debut, making two saves in the shoot-out to give fellow summer signing Vivianne Miedema the opportunity to win it.

PSG are in the final thanks to a 1-0 win over West Ham United on Thursday.

Here we’ll find out a little more about our opponents...

History

PSG’s women’s side was founded in 1971, a year after the formation of the club itself.

They have played in the top flight since 2001, winning their first major honour - the Coupe de France - in 2010.

The Red and Blues have since been crowned Division 1 champions for the first time in 2021, won two more cup titles in 2018 and 2022, and reached the UEFA Women’s Champions League final twice.

Manager

Fabrice Abriel has this summer taken over from Jocelyn Precheur as the team’s Head Coach.

Abriel was a midfielder who enjoyed a lengthy career with many of France’s most prominent clubs including Marseille, Nice and Lorient.

Since retiring in 2015, he has worked as a TV pundit before moving into coaching in the women’s game in 2021.

He spent three seasons with Fleury, who he led to an incredible fifth-placed finish in the Premiere Ligue last season.

Key players

In a squad that is mostly made up of French talent, one name will stand out to English fans.

Lionesses goalkeeper Mary Earps has this summer left Manchester United to join PSG and was between the sticks for Thursday’s win over West Ham.

Grace Geyoro, a 27-year-old midfielder, is the captain.

She has played 87 times for France and last season more than doubled her best goal tally across all club competitions, with 15 strikes in total.

Experienced Dutch winger Lieke Martens is another name many fans will recognise, with 160 international caps to her name and five successful seasons at Barcelona between 2017 and 2022.

2023/24 performance

It was PSG v Lyon all the way last season.

Lyon, historically the outstanding team in women’s football in France, came out on top in the Premiere Ligue and the Champions League semi-finals.

PSG ended the league campaign in second with 50 points from 22 games, while they made the last four of Europe’s elite competition with wins over Ajax, Roma and Hacken.

However, they managed to avoid Lyon in the Coupe de France, instead beating Abriel’s Fleury in the final to lift the trophy.

It was Fleury who had knocked Lyon out of the competition at the semi-final stage.
