Rebecca Knaak will wear the number 27 shirt for Manchester City.

The German defender has joined the Club until the summer of 2026 after leaving Swedish outfit Rosengard at the end of the 2024 Damallsvenskan campaign.

It was there where she was won the division’s Defender of the Year award at the end of last term having helped Rosengard to the title – her second top-flight crown with the club.

She could make her City debut this Sunday when we welcome Ipswich Town to the Joie Stadium for a 13:00 (UK) kick-off in the FA Cup.

The 28-year-old will become only the third player to have 27 on the back of their City shirt, with Daphne Corboz the first in 2015.

The American midfielder, who was back at the Joie Stadium this September when her current club Paris FC faced the Blues in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, wore the number in her debut season before switching to 10 for our WSL title-winning campaign the following year.

The next owner of the shirt was our current captain, Alex Greenwood, who was given number 27 in her debut season at City in 2020/21.

Like Corboz, though, the defender switched the following year, taking on her number five shirt which she continues to wear to this day.

Knaak’s first City shirt will be available to purchase in the coming weeks. Keep across the Etihad Stadium and Arndale Centre City Stores as well as mancity.com/shop to get yours.
