The Lionesses, reigning European champions, found themselves two goals down inside 25 minutes and, with the 90-minute mark approaching, faced elimination.
Needing two goals in the final 11 minutes against a side who’d conceded just once all tournament seemed a tall order, but England managed to force extra time with dramatic late goals from Lucy Bronze and Michelle Agyemang.
The two sides couldn’t be separated came from two goals down with 11 minutes remaining to force extra time and, eventually, penalties.
England managed to hold their nerve and win the shootout 3-2, booking their spot in the semi-finals against Italy on Tuesday 22 July.
And their penalty victory sparked memorable scenes in Feel Good Club, with the sell-out crowd celebrating as if they were over in Switzerland themselves.
An incredible event was capped off by an exciting pre-match offering, including an interactive quiz where prizes provided by Revoult were won, and interviews with Manchester City Managing Director Charlotte O’Neill as well as former players Izzy Christiansen and Toni Duggan.
