Penning a deal which will keep her at the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2029, the United States international becomes Andrée Jeglertz’s first January acquisition.
It follows her illustrious career so far both domestically and internationally where she’s won a swathe of honours for former club Portland Thorns and her nation.
The 27-year-old made over 100 appearances for the Thorns after signing professionally with them in 2022 and established herself as one of world football’s finest midfielders.
Now at City, she believes playing in England will aid her development further.
“It just kind of clicks. I felt very settled in my life in Portland and I feel so fortunate to have had a home.
“I don’t think it’s always common that you really find a home in the place you play and that made leaving that much harder.
“For me, it’s all about getting out my comfort zone and just continuing to push and stretch myself as best as I can and maximise every bit of my potential.
“Coming here is the perfect way to do that.”
Ahead of the 2025 NWSL campaign, Coffey was named Portland Thorns captain.
She then made 32 appearances last term, scoring twice, registering four assists, and earning a spot in the NWSL Best XI en route to reaching the Play-Off semi-finals.
And by donning the armband and leading the team on the field, the US international says it provided her with invaluable experience.
She added: “It was an incredible experience. It was such an honour to be named captain, especially after the likes of Christine Sinclair and Becky Sauerbrunn and just women I’ve looked up to my whole life and now I get to call friends.
“Stepping into that role after they had just had it and retired was such an honour and something I will always take so seriously.
“It was so humble to be on the receiving end of and that made the decision even harder to make, knowing I am leaving that behind.
“But it will always be a part of my story and my journey that I’m so proud of and so honoured to have and Portland will always hold a place in my heart. I leave with nothing but love for them.”
