Sandy MacIver has withdrawn from possible selection for England’s 2023 World Cup squad as she continues her injury rehabilitation.

Having stepped out of the Lionesses’ April squad for fixtures with Brazil and Australia due to a knock, City boss Gareth Taylor confirmed last month she would miss the final five matches of the Barclays Women’s Super League season.

Now, with the major tournament in Australia and New Zealand on the horizon, the 24-year-old has stated her focus is on returning to full fitness ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

MacIver issued the following statement: “I’ve taken the decision to make myself unavailable for England selection moving forward.

“My current focus remains on my rehab. I am making great progress and look forward to a fully fit pre-season with City.

“Wishing all the girls the best of luck in Australia!”
