GARETH TAYLOR PREVIEW
“We’re still assessing Viv[ianne Miedema] and the slight niggle she has got and that’s all it is,” he explained in Tuesday’s press conference.
“We’ve placed big importance on this game tomorrow. We have one more game before the break. We’ll assess Viv over the next 24 hours and see if she can make the journey with us to Vienna.”
He added: “Naomi [Layzell] is doing really well. She’s probably going to be ahead of what we anticipated. Once we’re on the other side of the international break, she won’t be too far away. Which is good news.”
Jill Roord preview
“I need to build rhythm but so far, I am happy with where I am at.
“[I feel] very good, pretty normal. I’ve played 90 minutes now and I’m very happy with that – my knee feels good and there’s been no reaction.
“The most important thing is that my body and knee felt good afterwards. I’m very happy with that.
“I spoke about it with the medical staff, and they will manage me every day and every training.
“If everything goes fine then grea.t - but if I need to take a step back then I will. I don’t expect that and will stay calm.”
LAST TIME OUT
In our last outing Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw scored a 92nd-minute winner in a dramatic 2-1 win away at Liverpool.
The hosts had taken the lead when Olivia Smith fired home from distance just before half-time at Anfield.
But City drew level just before the hour when Shaw headed home Lauren Hemp’s cross before her dramatic winner, moving us back to the top of the WSL table and extending our unbeaten start to seven matches in all competitions.
Meanwhile, in our previous Champions League assignment, City excellently dispatched reigning title holders Barcelona in front of a record-breaking crowd at the Joie Stadium.
Naomi Layzell broke the deadlock with her first-ever senior goal before Shaw scored her third goal on the European stage this term.
PREVIOUS MEETING
City last faced St Polten in the Champions League Round of 32 in October 2017, winning 6-0 on aggregate to secure progression into the quarter-finals.
Having won the first leg away 3-0, a victory by the same scoreline at the Joie Stadium in the reverse fixture added the gloss to the triumph.
Nikita Parris opened the scoring late in the first half before further strikes from Jill Scott and Melissa Lawley rubber stamped the success.
