Some of the impressive numbers behind Manchester City Women across the calendar year.

Gareth Taylor’s side claimed the Continental Cup with a memorable 3-1 triumph over Chelsea in March 2022, while we also reached an FA Cup final two months later.

Combined with a record winning run and attendance for our Women’s team, the past 12 months have certainly had plenty of moments to savour.

Look back on another year via some of the statistics below…

Goals, goals, goals

City have enjoyed some incredible attacking displays in 2022, exemplified by an outstanding scoring record.

Across 36 games in all competitions, Taylor’s side found the net 115 times, at an average of over three per match.

Those strikes were shared among 17 different players, once again demonstrating the quality and importance of the collective over the individual in this City side.

At the back

While City have been at our free-scoring best, that has been complemented by some impressive figures at the other end of the pitch.

Indeed, Taylor’s side have shipped just 21 goals in 2022, in just 15 different matches.

That means that we have kept as many clean sheets as we have conceded goals across the entire calendar year.

Shaw thing

Our success has been built on the collective, but it’s safe to say that Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has enjoyed an incredible year in front of goal.

The Jamaican found the net 24 times in just 31 appearances in all competitions, grabbing at least a brace on nine different occasions.

She also found the net four times in one match against Brighton in April 2022 and, with eight goals in nine appearances, is the Barclays Women’s Super League’s current top goalscorer.

Total wins

City have shown remarkable consistency across 2022, epitomised by winning 29 of our 36 matches in all competitions.

In total, 17 of those wins came in the WSL, seven in the Continental Cup, four in the FA Cup and one in UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying.

It means that Taylor’s side have won over 80% of our fixtures across the entire year.

Winning runs

City have enjoyed two particularly phenomenal winning runs in 2022, one of which is the longest in our Women’s team’s history.

Indeed, from a 1-0 derby victory at the Etihad Stadium on 13 February until an FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea on 15 May, City won every single competitive match we played in.

During those 13 games, we scored 46 times, conceded just five and also won the Continental Cup for a fourth time in our history.

City also won nine-straight matches in all competitions between 16 October and 11 December this year before a 1-1 draw with Manchester United. Speaking of which…

Record attendance

This year also saw Taylor’s side break our attendance record, with 44,259 supporters witnessing our thrilling stalemate with United in December 2022.

That surpassed our previous largest crowd by over 13,000, which came back in September 2019.

Furthermore, the 5,317 who packed in to witness a 1-0 derby win in February 2022 is also our highest-ever attendance at the Academy Stadium.
