City captain Steph Houghton and midfielder Vicky Losada surprised members of City in the Community’s Premier League Inspires and Premier League Primary Stars initiatives with a tour of the Academy Stadium.

Both projects, which are funded by the Premier League, aim to support young people both in terms of education and in leading active lifestyles.

Premier League Inspires focuses on secondary school students, providing advice and guidance to those at risk of not reaching their potential both in education and into early adulthood.

The Premier League’s Primary Stars initiative engages pupils under the age of 11 – and their teachers – and helps them to lead healthier, more active lifestyles through Physical Education lessons and bespoke workshops.

With the help of CITC – Manchester City’s official charity - Houghton and Losada met students from Oldham College Oasis and St Willibrords Catholic Primary School who engage in these initiatives, giving them a guided tour of the Academy Stadium, including the media auditorium and changing rooms.

The duo also provided each pupil with tickets to this Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League clash with Leicester City.

Our first home match of the campaign, it promises to be an unmissable encounter, rounding off an experience that each of the students will never forget.

Houghton said: “It’s been a great opportunity to show some of the children that are part of our CITC programme, for them to come in, experience what we do, how we work and what the stadium’s like.

“Fortunately, most of them are City fans as well!”

Losada added: “It was amazing to share with the students.

“I think it’s important they have role models and know what we do every day.

“Now they’re coming on Sunday so we can’t wait to see them at the Academy Stadium.”
