Former City captain and Club icon Steph Houghton will release her autobiography, Leading from the Back, on Thursday 7 November.

The Blues’ record appearance holder and most successful player enjoyed a remarkable career in the game, spanning over two decades, before her retirement in May 2024.

With 121 caps for the Lionesses, Steph has been at the heart of the women’s football revolution, inspiring girls and young women around the world.

Leading from the Back is Steph’s incredibly honest account of what it takes to make it to the pinnacle of women’s football when the odds are well and truly stacked against you.

An inspiring memoir, she recounts the highs and lows of making it to the top of her game as England captain, star of the London Olympics, and Manchester City stalwart, via Sunderland, Leeds and Arsenal.

The autobiography is available to purchase from all major bookshops, including at our very own City store.

And the Club has been given access to publish five separate extracts from the autobiography, starting with two sections on its release day.

Our former skipper also reveals some of the conversations she’s had over the years with Pep Guardiola, including recent advice about moving into a coaching position, should Houghton decide to pursue a career in the dugout.

Keep across our channels for an in-depth reflection on one of City and England’s legendary figures, in her own words.
