City skipper Steph Houghton has revealed what it’s like to face team-mate and Barclays Women’s Super League top scorer Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw.

The Jamaican added to her impressive tally at the weekend, opening the scoring in a deserved 2-0 win away to Leicester.

It means the 26-year-old has now found the net 10 times in 12 WSL outings, while her total in all competitions stands at 17 strikes in as many matches.

And speaking as a guest on Matchday Live, Houghton hailed the work that the forward has done off the pitch to spark her incredible run of form.

“Bunny’s really worked hard on her game physically and off the pitch,” the defender revealed.

“She’s a nightmare to play against in training, she’s one of those strikers where, if you get too tight, she’ll just roll you because she’s so strong.

“She can finish with both feet and is always desperate to score. For us to have her on our side is unbelievable.”

It’s an exciting week for Houghton and co. with a double header against Arsenal on the horizon.

On Wednesday evening, City travel to Meadow Park to face the Gunners in the Continental Cup semi-finals, before welcoming the Londoners back to a sell-out Academy Stadium for a crucial WSL showdown.

Gareth Taylor’s side are brimming with confidence having last tasted defeat in September, and Houghton is proud of the progress we have made as a team during that run.

She said: “It’s good at the moment, we’re 16 unbeaten which is great and have a massive week coming up against Arsenal in the semi-final of the Continental Cup and then in the league at home.

“We’ve sold the stadium out which will be great.

“For us we had a few disappointing results [at the start of the season] which as a team we know we can do better.

“But to ultimately go on that run and be where we are in the league, competing for Europe and the title is a great position to be in.”
