Therese Sjögran believes City’s heavy involvement in the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is just rewards after a special 12 months for the Club.

The WSL and FA Cup holders were nominated in four separate Women’s award categories, including five nominees for the main award – considered the most prestigious individual prize in football.

Only FC Barcelona had more representatives in this year’s Ballon d’Or, with Alex Greenwood, Kerstin Casparij, Yui Hasegawa, Vivianne Miedema and Bunny Shaw all shortlisted, while Ayaka Yamashita and Andrée Jeglertz are also up for Goalkeeper and Coach of the Year respectively.

City were also in contention for the Women’s Club of the Year gong, and Sjögran has expressed her pride at seeing so many of the team shortlisted.

She said: “We’re so proud of our Ballon d’Or nominees and want to again congratulate them on being shortlisted in their respective awards.

“Football is a team game, but to be recognised in the most prestigious individual awards speaks volumes of how they’ve each played a huge part in a special year for City.

“Yama, Alex, Kerstin, Yui, Viv and Bunny are not only among the best in the world, but they’re also fantastic ambassadors for Manchester City on and off the pitch and a credit to the sport.

“As is Andrée - he always credits his coaching staff for helping us achieve what we have, but his personal impact on the team and the club is important to highlight.

“We’re lucky to have them, and their involvement in the Ballon d’Or is deserved recognition of everything they’ve contributed to this club.”
