Vicky Losada says she and her City teammates are ready for the challenge ahead of Sunday’s UEFA Women’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

Victory at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano would see City progress to the final round of qualification at the expense of the side who knocked us out of last season’s tournament.

A familiar face will also line-up for our opponents in Sunday’s 20:00 (UK) kick-off, as Gareth Taylor’s side prepare to lock horns with new Madrid recruit, Caroline Weir.

Asked about the prospect of facing her former teammate and Las Blancas in general, Losada insisted that, while aware of the Spaniards’ threats, she and the squad are in a confident mood.

“The first thing we have to do is play our own game. We are more than ready,” she explained.

“It’s about having the right mentality. We have to respect the opponent, they’re a really good team.

“It’s two big teams and could be a semi-final or a final for the Champions League.

“Now we know them better and I think we have to take care of the small details.

“We all know how talented [Caroline Weir], and we saw her (on Thursday).

“On the other hand, we know her so well, so we know how to defend her, we know her strengths.

“We’ve been analysing the Real Madrid team in general, so we feel confident and ready for tomorrow.”

Losada also explained how, on a personal level, she feels ready to hit the ground running in 2022/23 after seeing her first season at the Club cut short through injury.

The Spanish midfielder still managed to grab seven goals in her maiden campaign at the Academy Stadium and was among the goals once again in our 6-0 win over WFC Tomiris-Turan on Thursday.

After getting a full pre-season under her belt, she’s excited for what the new season will bring, believing any success we have this season is down to a squad effort.

She said: “I’m so happy because I’ve been working so hard.

“I didn’t have much holiday in the summer, I came back three months ago and games like tomorrow are big games.

“I’m happy because all the girls in general are fit and to create a competitive team and a winning mentality we need everyone involved.

“I think we’re all ready and excited for tomorrow.”
