Vivianne Miedema has been central to City's success so far this season... and the numbers back it up.

The Dutch international is enjoying her second full season at the Club after signing from Arsenal in the summer of 2024, with City now triggering a 12-month extension on her existing deal to take her time in Manchester to at least 2027.

She arrived at the Joie Stadium with a fearsome goalscoring reputation as the WSL’s record goalscorer, but her final two seasons at Arsenal had been blighted by injuries after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in December 2022.

Miedema started life well at City, with only Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw scoring more than our number ten, but injuries once again ruled her out of large spells in her debut campaign.

It’s been a very different story in 2025/26, though.

So far, Viv has been an ever-present in the WSL for City, grabbing an impressive eight goals and five assists from a more withdrawn attacking position.

It’s a role which she believes is bringing the best out of her, allowing for more involvement across the pitch and, as she added with a smile in a recent interview: ‘I make slide tackles these days’.

Although tongue-in-cheek, Miedema’s comment on her defensive output does speak to her having a greater influence on matches, with 109 touches in the opposition box and 57 shots both bettered only by Shaw in the WSL this season.

With eight WSL strikes already this term, our number ten is enjoying her best goalscoring campaign since 2021/22, and she’s added a further five assists to that tally as well.

That places her second in overall goal involvements this season in the WSL, with Shaw and Kerolin completing a City clean sweep for the top three.

Miedema is rapidly approaching another remarkable milestone in her career to date, with 100 WSL goals on the horizon to match her century of strikes for the Netherlands (another record).

She’s currently on 95 goals, and sits third in the rankings so far this season behind only Shaw and Aston Villa’s Kirsty Hanson.

But there’s so much more to Viv’s game than goals, with her deeper position allowing our number ten to pick up play and make things tick for the WSL leaders.

Miedema already has five assists to her name in the WSL this season, bettered only by Kerstin Casparij, and has created 29 chances so far heading into the February / March international break.

That metric is the fourth highest in the entire WSL, with only Lauren Hemp, London City Lionesses’ Kosovare Asllani and Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey providing more so far.

Viv is playing at the top of her game, and the Blues are certainly reaping the benefits.
