The Barclays Women’s Super League’s all-time leading goalscorer arrived at City ahead of 2024/25 following an illustrious spell at Arsenal between 2017 and 2024.
Since then, she’s made six appearances for the Blues and scored three goals, recovering from a knee issue early in her sky blue career.
Following October’s memorable victory over Barcelona in the Champions League, the Netherlands international was absent until our first match of 2025 where she netted in a 3-0 FA Cup win over Ipswich Town.
Although Gareth Taylor reaffirmed her need to be eased back into action, Miedema says she’s champing at the bit to feature against Marc Skinner’s side at the Etihad Stadium.
“I’m excited. I’m just returning to play right now which is really good for me,” she explained.
“Hopefully I can help the team somehow on the day. The big derbies are the special ones, so I’m really excited to play in one.

“It’s the big games you want to play in. We’ve played in the big stadiums with big crowds, you can only be excited for those games.
“I’ve been here six months now, it’d be amazing for us to get a good crowd in the stadium and lots of noise.”
Another player who could taste the Manchester derby for the first time today is German defender Rebecca Knaak.
The 2024 Damallsvenskan Defender of the Year became our maiden January signing when penning a year-and-a-half deal from Rosengard which will keep her at the Club until the summer of 2026.
She too played in the victory over Ipswich – helping us to a clean sheet after assisting Jill Roord’s opener.
And Miedema believes Knaak will be a great addition to Taylor’s team.
She added: “I think I know her the longest out of everyone at City.
“[We’re the] same age, played against each other for years in the youth national teams and in the Bundesliga.
“She’s obviously experienced and will bring that bit we’re maybe missing with Alex [Greenwood] out, hopefully she’ll settle in and get a good start to her City career.”
