Team news
The boss says the City squad are in a ‘really positive’ position ahead of Sunday’s clash.
“When we ended before Christmas there were good numbers in terms of availability. Currently so far everyone’s come back looking good and sharp,” Taylor explained in his pre-match press conference.
“We’ve got a good period of games if we can progress in some of the competitions and have a potential to play every three or four days and to do that we need good squad availability.
“At this moment, everyone is fit and available.”
FORM GUIDE
Taylor’s side were in phenomenal form before the hiatus – recording a 10-game unbeaten run which included nine consecutive victories.
Our final match of 2022 saw us play out an exciting 1-1 draw with Manchester United in front of a Club-record crowd of 44,529 – with Laura Coombs cancelling out Leah Galton’s opener.
The hosts will also be buoyed coming into the fixture after defeating London rivals Tottenham 2-0 at home.
Dagný Brynjarsdóttir and Hawa Cissoko scored the vital goals to hand Paul Konchesky’s side three points on that ocassion.
The Hammers currently sit fifth in the WSL table, one place below City in fourth.
PREVIOUS MEETING
City progressed into the FA Cup final the last time the two sides met, in April 2022.
First half goals from Ellen White and Chloe Kelly (her first since returning from an ACL injury) gave us a commanding lead at the interval.
The Hammers then halved the deficit through Lisa Evans shortly after the break, but Lauren Hemp ensured our progression to the showpiece event at Wembley with an excellent brace.
LAST TIME OUT
Laura Coombs’ second half header claimed City a well-earned point against Manchester United in front of a Club record crowd for a women’s fixture.
An immense 44,529 fans packed into the Etihad Stadium to witness two of the WSL’s form sides cancel each other out and it was the visitors who took the lead through Galton’s deflected effort just before the half hour.
City then gave their incredible support something to cheer when we grabbed the leveller shortly after the interval with Coombs’ close-range effort.
Stats
- Manchester City are unbeaten in our last seven WSL games (W6 D1) - only league leaders Chelsea are on a longer such run (9).
- City have won our last three WSL away games and could win four in a row for the first time since January 2022.
- Gareth Taylor‘s side have gone 51 WSL games without a 0-0 draw (September 2020 v Brighton) - only Liverpool are on a longer such run among current WSL teams.
- City have scored 22 goals in our seven WSL games against West Ham, an average of 3.1 per game; among sides we’ve played more than five times in the competition, only against Brighton (4.6) and Bristol City (3.2) do we have a better scoring ratio.
