GARETH TAYLOR PREVIEW
Shaw, last season’s WSL’s Golden Boot winner, and Miedema, the league’s record scorer, were both introduced as second half substitutes in our 1-1 draw with West Ham United.
Taylor is confident both will be available from the get-go at the Joie Stadium this Sunday though as we aim to reach the FA Cup semi-final.
Aoba Fujino wasn’t able to feature in the West Ham fixture after grabbing the winner against Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday, and the boss admits she could miss out again this weekend.
Laura Blindkilde Brown was also unavailable against the Hammers having been struck down with food poisoning, but she was back in training on Friday ahead of Villa’s visit, while Laura Coombs also continues to improve.
The boss said: “We have Bunny [Shaw] and Viv [Miedema] into contention for a start.
“Laura Blindkilde Brown came back to training today [but] it’s probably a little too soon for Aoba. Things are slightly improved.
“We managed to get game time into Laura Coombs as well so hopefully things are more settled.”
LAST TIME OUT
City suffered late heartache in the 1-1 draw with West Ham United in our last game.
It looked like the Blues had done enough for the victory when Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw smashed home the opener from close-range on 80 minutes with the clock ticking down to full-time.
But Hammers substitute Manuela Pavi cut inside on her right foot and curled into the far corner to earn the hosts a share of the spoils right at the death.
PREVIOUS MEETING
Vivianne Miedema scored two goals in an entertaining 4-2 win at Villa Park back in January.
Chasity Grant scored an early goal in the sixth minute, but the Blues turned it around in the second half.
Aston Villa’s second goal was scored by our own Laia Aleixandri but efforts from Mary Fowler and Jess Park helped us pull the game back in our favour, ending with a two-goal advantage.
BROADCAST DETAILS
Our match against the Villans this weekend will be broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sports Website.
