As Futoshi Ikeda’s side impressively won at Lokomotiv Stadium Tashkent, Alanna Kennedy and Mary Fowler helped Australia beat Iran and Ruby Mace’s England Under-23s drew with Italy.
Starting with Hasegawa’s nation, she provided a pinpoint pass for Yoshino Nakashima who broke into the box and delivered a delicate chip to break the deadlock in the 17th minute of their opening Olympic qualifier.
That proved to be the only goal of the first half in an even contest, but Japan showed their quality after the interval by adding a further six goals before full-time.
Nakashima netted her second of the afternoon shortly after the break, before City’s combative midfielder was substituted on 52 minutes.
Strikes from Honoka Hayashi, Mina Tanaka, Miyabi Moriya, Kiko Seike and Hikaru Naomoto added the gloss to a sparkling display in Tashkent.
Next up for Ikeda’s team is meeting with Uzbekistan on Sunday 29 October, with kick-off scheduled for 12:00 (UK).
Meanwhile, both Kennedy and Fowler were introduced in the second half of the Matildas’ opening 2-0 Olympic qualifier success over Iran.
Ellie Carpenter opened the scoring in the 19th minute with her first national team goal when she controlled the ball well inside the box to slot home.
As Tony Gustavsson looked to seal three points he introduced City’s duo onto the field and it proved to have the desired effect when Sam Kerr ghosted into the far post and tapped a whipped cross into the net.
Finally, Mace started in England Under-23s’ battling 1-1 friendly draw with Italy.
Brighton defender Poppy Pattinson broke the deadlock with 13 minutes remaining of the first half when she saw her deflected effort loop into the back of the net.
Unfortunately, the Young Lionesses couldn’t find the second goal they craved before the hosts levelled in the 65th minute.
