A second half header from Laura Coombs earned the hosts what could prove an important point over our cross-city rivals in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

But while a thrilling encounter was played out between two of the league’s form sides, the afternoon’s significance transcended the action on the pitch.

Indeed, an incredible 44,259 supporters were at the Etihad Stadium to watch City lock horns with United.

As well as being the second largest crowd in WSL history, it also surpassed the Club’s record attendance for a women’s match by over 13,000.

It was a truly unforgettable occasion for City, and one that demonstrates the continued growth and interest in the women’s game.

That was made possible by the fans who braved the cold to cheer on Gareth Taylor and Marc Skinner’s sides.
