The Japanese international has signed a new two-year contract extension, committing her future to Manchester City until the summer of 2027.
Having joined the Club from West Ham United in the summer of 2022, Gareth Taylor moved Hasegawa into a more defensive role at the base of the midfield.
And the 26-year-old has more than repaid that faith, as demonstrated by her magnificent numbers both in and out of possession.
Across 2022/23, a season where the Japanese international would figure in the PFA WSL Team of the Season, Hasegawa boasted the best pass completion of any midfielder in the English top flight according to Opta metrics.
Indeed, across an average of 56.8 attempted passes per 90 minutes, our midfielder found her intended target on 50.5 occasions for an astonishing 88.9%.
She also ranked 11th in the entire division for progressive passes, at an average of 3.9 per match to show that, while tidy in possession, Hasegawa also distributes with purpose.
It’s been a similar story in the current campaign.
The midfielder once again figures in the top ten for successful passes so far across the 2023/24 WSL season, with Hasegawa finding a team-mate on a remarkable 596 occasions so far.
Only Alex Greenwood (634) and Laia Aleixandri (614) figure higher in that list for City, but it once again demonstrates our consistent desire to build attacks from deep, and the emphasis that we place on technical quality across the entire pitch.
Overall, the Japanese international’s pass success rate in the WSL stands at just over 87% so far this season, with her total higher than any other outfield player who doesn’t predominantly play as a defender.
Off the ball, Hasegawa has once again excelled.
So far across 2023/24, the midfielder has won possession more times than any other player in the WSL, with an astonishing tally of 113.
She also tops the charts for interceptions, with 24 so far in City’s ten league fixtures.
Only Brighton’s Kayleigh Green was able to better that total per 90 minutes than the Japanese international last season, while Hasegawa was also the eighth-most successful player in the WSL at regaining possession across 2022/23.
The 26-year-old’s remarkable numbers off the ball are even more startling when considering City’s tendency to dominate possession.
Hasegawa has more than made her make at the Joie Stadium during her first 18 months at the Club, and that’s sure to continued over the next three-and-a-half years!
