Taylor

Gareth Taylor played for City between 1998 and 2001.

He returned as a coach in 2011 and in the summer of 2017 was appointed City’s academy manager, replacing Lee Carsley. 

Having previously overseen the Club’s Under-16s, he then led City’s Under-18s for three seasons, helping to develop the fledgling careers of many young players and guiding the team to successive Premier League U18 Cup victories in 2019 and 2020.

In May 2020, Taylor agreed a three-year deal to become the new Head Coach of Manchester City Women, succeeding Nick Cushing, who also started his coaching career in City’s Academy before spending six trophy-laden years with City’s women’s team ahead of his switch to New York City FC. 

A striker during his playing days, the former Wales international boasts almost 650 appearances in all competitions.

Achieving successive promotions during his time at Maine Road, Taylor featured 55 times for City between 1998 and 2001, including the Club’s famous Division Two Play-Off Final win over Gillingham in 1999. 

Despite being installed as Women’s Team Head Coach in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, he picked up where Nick Cushing had left off, guiding his side to FA Cup glory in November 2020 with an extra-time 3-1 win over Everton at Wembley.

And he made it two trophies in two seasons with our fourth Continental Cup Final triumph, inspiring another 3-1 victory - this one over Chelsea at Plough Lane, as we came from a goal down to lift the coveted silverware.

Taylor received back-to-back Manager of the Month awards in February and March 2023, with City going six months without defeat in the Barclays Women’s Super League between October and March.

The boss agreed to a contract extension in June 2023, committing his future to the Club until 2024.
