Interim Head Coach
Cushing’s long association with the Club and City Football Group began in 2007 when enjoying a role as a schools coach before joining the Academy set-up.
He was then named the first head coach of our professional women’s side in 2014 before presiding over a trophy-laden tenure which spanned over six years at the Joie Stadium.
In total, he led the Blues to six major honours including three League Cups, two FA Cups and one Barclays Women’s Super League title.
During City’s first season under his stewardship, we won the 2014 League Cup after a 1-0 triumph over Arsenal in the showpiece at Adams Park.
The following season we finished second in the league before we went one better in 2016 when winning the WSL, going the entire season unbeaten.
Across 16 league matches, we won 13 and drew three of our assignments – scoring a hugely impressive 36 goals and conceding just four times across the WSL campaign.
What’s more, we completed a league and cup double that term when lifting our second-ever League Cup.
In the four seasons that followed, we won our maiden FA Cup before doubling our tally in the prestigious competition while also lifting a third League Cup under Cushing in his last full season at the helm in 2018/19.
On the European front, he led us to consecutive UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals in 2016/17 and 2017/18 – the furthest we’ve reached on the continent.
Cushing then departed in February 2020 for fellow CFG side and MLS outfit New York City, becoming Ronny Delia’s assistant before assuming the role of Head Coach in 2023 following a spell in interim charge.
He departed the United States in November 2024 and became City Women’s Interim Head Coach in March 2025 until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
