The guest on the latest episode of the Official Man City Podcast is a hugely significant figure in the Club’s history…

David Bernstein joined the City board in 1994 and became chairman with eight matches remaining of the 1997/98 season as we fell towards the third tier of English football.

Back-to-back promotions saw us return to the Premier League followed by relegation and another promotion before he left the Club in 2003.

He helped to put City back on a sound footing off the pitch and facilitated our move from Maine Road to what is now the Etihad Stadium.

Paul Dickov was a City player through that period scoring that unforgettable late equaliser in the 1999 play-off final at Wembley that helped the course of history of the Club.

He joins fellow host Rob Pollard for a fascinating chat with Bernstein to look back on a crucial period for the Club which he has also chronicled in his recent book ‘We Were Really There’.

We begin with his boyhood memories of supporting the Blues and discuss his rollercoaster period at City, including how he felt when Gillingham took a 2-0 lead at Wembley.

Now 25 years on, our new away kit pays tribute to that remarkable day and David talks about how those colours have a special resonance.
