Elite Development Squad Lead Coach Ben Wilkinson says his side need to be more clinical in front of goal.

City’s youngsters drew 2-2 with PSV Eindhoven on Friday evening, sharing the spoils in our first Group A game of the Premier League International Cup.

We took the lead just after the half-hour mark through an Emilio Lawrence strike.

But an equaliser just before half-time, a Jack Wint own-goal forced by a Dele Thomas’ ranged strike followed by a Thomas goal, also from distance, left City trailing.

It was in our final attack of the game our young boys in blue found the all-important equaliser, through a composed finish by substitute Reigan Heskey.

And the Lead Coach felt that his team should have been further ahead following a handful of dangerous chances in the first half, an aspect of our game his side will continue to work on ahead of our final few games in 2025.

MATCH REPORT | CITY 2-2 PSV

“I think in the end when you’re losing in the back end of the game and you get a point then okay you have to take it,” began Wilkinson.

“But I think then game should have been over really in the first half.

“I think we created so many chances, so many moments. To go in 1-1 was criminal really on our behalf in terms of A being more clinical and being three or four nil up and B conceding a goal in the last sort of action in the first half.

“I think those two things we are really disappointed with. I think the second half was a lot more even. We didn’t play as well. We were not as intent with our pressing maybe and I thought we weren’t as clean with the ball.

“So I think the second half was a much more even game but I think in the first half we created so many opportunities that we really should have been clear.”
