Elite Development Squad Lead Coach Ben Wilkinson says he is pleased with how his team dealt with Nottingham Forest's game plan during our 3-0 win on Friday evening.

Mamad Sangare’s strike on three minutes fired City into a deserved lead before a fantastic solo goal from Ryan McAidoo on the brink of half-time doubled our advantage.

Sverre Nypan was teed up beautifully by McAidoo 22 seconds into the second half to complete a clinical 3-0 win, a fourth successive win in the PL2 for our young boys in blue.

But it wasn’t an easy win, with Forest’s man-for-man marking a challenge City haven’t faced much of before.

A challenge that Wilkinson felt his team faced head on.

“We spoke before the game about the challenges that Forest face in terms of their man to man,” began Wilkinson.

“And it is difficult. Especially when they don’t apply any pressure on the goalkeeper so then literally it’s man to man all over the pitch.

“And you have to try and find the solutions. So yeah it can be tough in those moments but I thought what we were really good at tonight was how clinical we were.

“We got an early goal which helps get your noses in front and start on the front foot and takes the energy out of them because they are a high energy team.

“And I thought we were really clinical in that moment.

“The second goal was a top individual goal from Ryan. We know he is capable of that and to keep delivering that is what we are asking of him.

“And really pleased with him to have the end product. And the third goal at the start of the second half I think you know you come out at 2-0 up and you worry that if they get the next goal the game could change.

“But to score so quickly helped in terms of the result to secure it and helped us to be a bit more clinical for the rest of the game.”
