EDS head coach Brian Barry-Murphy has challenged his City youngsters to build on our fine start to the new PL2 season when we play host to Leicester at the Academy Stadium on Sunday.

Having secured back-to-back PL2 titles in hugely impressive manner last term, City’s Under-21s began the new season in equally eye-catching fashion, securing a superb 3-0 win away at Liverpool in last weekend’s opener.

Now the focus switches to Sunday’s first home game against the young Foxes. City’s EDS secured a fine 5-0 home win over Leicester last October before the two teams fought out a goalless draw in the East Midlands.

And for his part, Barry-Murphy is fully expecting a stern test for his new-look squad.

And with several members of last season’s set-up either having moved away on loan or permanent deals and others now being part of the first team set-up, he says it will be another ideal challenge for his young charges.

“I do imagine it will be a tough game,” Barry-Murphy declared.

“Last season (here) it was a tough game despite the scoreline, and Cole (Palmer) scored a hat trick from nowhere having played for the first team earlier that day.

“This season I think we will need to share out the goals a bit more  and that’s an exciting challenge because it puts more responsibilities on the rest of the squad.

“But I know they can do that, and I think Sunday’s game will be another very good example of how tough this season will be and how much of a challenge for our young players who have come up from the regionalised youth league.”
