Brian Barry-Murphy said the way City fought back to claim a 2-2 draw at Red Star Belgrade served as the ideal rehearsal looking ahead to the UEFA Youth League knockout stages.

A youthful City side featuring a number of Youth League debutants twice fought back in the Serbian capital to claim a point with Ashton Muir and substitute Farid Alfa-Ruprecht both on target.

The result ensured we ended the group stages unbeaten and in top spot, with our place in the last 16 already secured.

And for the head coach, it was an ideal benchmark looking ahead to next February’s knockout stages.

“I thought that there was good energy throughout and that we chased the game really well,” said Barry-Murphy.

“There were lots of good learning points for our defenders.”
