Brian Barry-Murphy has described Tuesday’s UEFA Youth League clash against Young Boys Under-19s as an ‘amazing occasion’ for several young players set to be given a chance at a higher level.

Kick-off is set for 13:00 (UK) at the Joie Stadium, but the likes of Joel Ndala, Justin Oboavwoduo, Lakyle Samuel and Matty Warhurst are all unavailable having each been selected to represent England at the Under-17 World Cup in Indonesia.

It means Barry-Murphy will provide players from younger age groups with an opportunity to impress.

Three points at the Joie Stadium and a win for RB Leipzig against Red Star Belgrade would guarantee a top two finish in Group G, as well as continuing our unbeaten start to the European campaign.

Regardless of the outcome, Barry-Murphy has called for our exciting young group to relish the occasion, and the more experienced members of the squad to shoulder the added responsibility.

“It’s opened up an opportunity for some of our players who remain here [and not at the World Cup],” the boss explained ahead of kick-off.

“The Under-17s are away with England, so some of our players will be much younger.

Jaden Heskey, for example, will start with Reigan Heskey his brother, who’s an Under-16s player.

“It’s an amazing occasion for those players and a big responsibility for our older members of the squad to make sure they perform to their best to make it a special day for those players.”

A detailed match report from this afternoon’s clash will be available to read soon after the final whistle, as well as reaction from Barry-Murphy.
