City Under-18s lead coach Oliver Reiss said there were positives aplenty to take from an opening day Under-18 Premier League North goalless draw away at Leeds United.

In what was an entertaining and highly competitive affair at Thorp Arch, City carved out a number of decent opportunities and were also unlucky to see Reigan Hesley’s first half effort hit the post.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic though with City keeper Oliver Whatmuff producing a series of outstanding saves.

Ultimately, both sides took the point and reflecting on his first competitive match since taking charge, Reiss said he was more than satisfied with what he saw.

“In the first game you never really know here you are with your performance and what level you are at after pre-season so I think it was a good and fair result for both teams,” the lead coach said.

“We had some good situations and Leeds also did well but in the last 10 or 15 minutes we could see that we were tired but we saw that we really tried and had the passion to try to fight for the win.

“That was something I wanted to see so I was very proud of the players.

“It’s the first match and we want to improve in some aspects but for the first game I think it was OK.”
