Ryan McAidoo says City winger Jeremy Doku has been a big influence on the way the 17-year-old plays football.

The England youth international scored a fantastic solo goal on Wednesday afternoon, helping City to a 5-3 win over AS Monaco to maintain our 100% record in the UEFA Youth League.

Mahamadou Sangare’s hat-trick, a Melvin Gomes own goal and McAidoo strike was too much for Nahel Haddani’s brace and Ekene Chukwuani’s goal to overcome.

McAidoo’s was perhaps the most magical and was a Doku-esque goal full of trickery.

The winger rushed towards Monaco’s goal after being sent through one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

McAidoo faked a shot to squeeze around the shot stopper before another feint past Yashir Mouh allowed the forward to tap home into an empty net.

“It’s something [end product] I’ve worked really hard on because you reap what you sow. So then I can do stuff like that on the pitch,” said McAidoo when analysing his first Youth League goal of 2025/26.

“There is a lot at the moment [players I look up to]. [Jeremy] Doku is definitely up there because of his agility, just everything, Doku is just top.

“He’s even improved on his end product, which is what I feel like I need to improve on as well.

“Currently, it’s Doku [my biggest inspiration] at the moment.”
