Cityzens Giving is back and you have the power to decide how £400,000, donated by City Football Group its partners, is split between six community football projects across the world.
In Manchester, an inspirational group of Young Leaders are working hard to promote female empowerment through the City Girls project.
Football is synonymous with the city and Manchester’s passion for the game is known around the world.
More than 50% of young people are playing regularly. However, as they reach their teenage years, girls stop playing and drop out of the game at twice the rate as boys.
Nineteen-year-old Shauna and other female young leaders in Manchester want to address this and will be providing weekly training sessions for girls at new sites across the city.
Not only will participants have the opportunity to develop their skills, but this is also a chance for them to build their confidence in a safe and inclusive environment.
For Shauna, it’s about giving these young girls a goal to strive for.
“If girls have something to aim towards and they get somewhere in life, or they get to a point where they are happy with themselves, or they just enjoy playing, you can say that you played a role in that,” she said.
