Eyal Berkovic helps a trophy winning season for Manchester City get off to an incredible start during the 3-0 victory over Watford.

The Israeli reacts quickest to a shot coming back off the bar and turns home to double Manchester City’s lead in the second half on the opening day.

Goals from Shaun Goater and Stuart Pearce either side of Berkovic’s strike sealed the three points.

By the end of the campaign, City had racked up 99 points in Division One and guaranteed promotion back to the Premiership while Watford finished in 14th position.

Berkovic was so integral to the performance of Kevin Keegan’s side that day that it led to a heap of praise from Watford manager Gianluca Vialli.

The former Chelsea boss said: “He gave us problems running with the ball, taking players on, and playing between the back four and the midfield four.”

City XI: Nash, Dunne, Pearce, Howey, Charvet, Wiekens, Berkovic, Tiatto, Granville, Goater, Wanchope
