Paulo Wanchope was a mercurial talent, a player who could set the pulse racing with one shimmy or flick, and his goal away at Southampton in 2003 demonstrated another side of his game: explosive finishing.
With City 1-0 up after Robbie Fowler’s first league goal for the Club, Wanchope broke clear of the Saints defence with five minutes of the game remaining and blasted the ball past Paul Jones with a rasping drive, beating the ‘keeper with a top-corner effort.
It sealed a comfortable 2-0 win for Kevin Keegan’s Blues.
