After recruiting five new players in the form of Caroline Weir, Gemma Bonner, Janine Beckie, Lauren Hemp and Tessa Wullaert, the boss believes the Blues are in a good place to start their FA Women’s Super League campaign.

The title race begins for City on Sunday 9 September when Cushing’s side travel to London to face reigning Champions Chelsea.

“We’re in a good place and our pre-season plan went to plan,” Cushing outlined.  “We put a plan in place at Christmas in terms of what we wanted to bring in.

Gemma Bonner became available and that was an area we wanted to add to.

“We’re really pleased with who we’ve added and pleased with squad – it’s the most balanced we’ve had in five seasons.”

When asked about Tessa Wullaert, the City manager heaped praise on the Belgian star.

“We highlighted Tessa at Christmas and thought she would be an asset,” Nick added. “We need offensive midfielders and she can do that, she’s exceptional.

“She’s come from Germany, which has a competitive league. She suits our style and will improve the team. But we will improve her, too. Our style is more physical than she’s used to. We’re enjoying having her here.”
